Ausstellung "Chiffren, Codizes, Cryptos – visuell verschlüsselte Informationen"

Ciphers, Codizes & Cryptos – Visually Encrypted Information Around the world, information is written (encoded), encrypted (encrypted) and conveyed (transferred). Nowadays, this data processing happens at lightning speed because it is mostly electronic-digital in globally networked cyberspace. At the same time, one is hardly aware of the technical complexity of these processes anymore, as they now seem completely self-evident. As long as everything works, it doesn't matter. But on the horizon of events, the dark side of information and communication technology, which is beneficial in itself, is already apparent: a hunger for energy that can hardly be quenched anymore, which entails an overtaxing of raw material sources and, associated with it, conflicts over sustainable resources. So the people of the information age will have no choice but to fix the problem at the root. And for this to happen, one must understand the essence of the information substance exactly, both from the technical-physical and from the cognitive-communicative side. In this regard, the new postulate called "it from bit" helps physics, which captures information as encoded energy and researches it accordingly. In simple terms, this means that in the future not only the quantitative amount of energy demand will have to be taken into account, but also the qualitative coding of any data concepts. This applies to analogue information products as well as to digitally prepared ones.
The exhibition "Ciphers, Codizes & Cryptos – Visually Encrypted Information" shows this not easily understandable topic by means of a comparative, above all decelerated consideration of both a medieval and a modern example: - On the one hand, the historical picture ceiling in the church of St. Martin in Zillis. Their famous numbers, signs and symbols were not created by chance, but were produced with the arbitrary intention of a targeted message conveyance. - On the other hand, innovative artefacts from the Andeerer Tafelbild-Manufaktur Stoffelsconception GmbH will be exhibited. These products, technically referred to as PNFTs (= Physical Non-Fungible Tokens), contain sophisticated information processing processes. Their unique selling point is that they always have a measured vibration as a reference in terms of content. Like their classic counterparts, the newly designed panel paintings have a stringently coded meaning.
