Event Engadin St. Moritz
Chalandamarz in La Punt
Description
On February 28th is Chalandamarz, the festival of winter's banishment. Dressed in bright blue robes, boys and girls go from house to house singing traditional songs. The procession wouldn't be complete without cowbells, "Plumpas," and "Brunzinas," which the children use to drive away the winter spirits in true Schellenursli style. Spring could hardly begin more beautifully. Chalandamarz is officially opened at 4:00 a.m. in the village with whip cracking and the ringing of bells. The procession starts at 6:00 a.m. in the village square in Chamues-ch. During the procession, the children collect money for the Ballin (Chalandamarz ball) and sweets as refreshments for the long day. Chers salüds dals patruns/patrunas e chavals
