Choir concert "Without words"

When voices sound without words. The program includes works in which the voices manage entirely without sung text - and yet develop their own impressive musical language. The starting point of the program is "Adiemus - Songs of Sanctuary" for choir, orchestra and percussion by the English composer Karl Jenkins. In it, the choir sings not intelligible words, but a specially created phonetic language of syllables and sounds. This idea runs like a common thread through the program: other styles - such as jazz or the natural yodel of folk music - also have forms of singing that manage without any text at all and yet are immediately moving. The concert therefore brings different musical worlds into conversation with each other. A special moment arises where jazz improvisation and natural yodeling meet: The young jazz musician Anna Bläsi and the young yodeller Andrea Küttel work with the choir on the passage in which improvised jazz lines and yodeling melodies meet over a choral and instrumental sound carpet, play with each other and finally find a common musical expression. The concert leads from calm, meditative sounds through powerful passages to a quiet, lingering conclusion. Performers include singers from the da donnas Vaz choir, an ad hoc orchestra and percussion as well as various soloists.
