Marina, who was adopted as a child, needs to find part of her biological family in order to obtain a civil document for her studies. Guided by her mother's diary, which she has never missed, she travels to the Spanish Atlantic coast and meets her paternal family, whom she does not know. Marina's arrival brings the past back to life. By reviving the memory of her parents, she discovers her family's secrets, the unspoken and the hidden stories.

"Romería", the third feature film by Carla Simón to be presented in the official competition of the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, concludes a trilogy on family memory introduced with "Summer 1993", the best first film at the 2017 Berlinale, and "Alcarràs", the 2022 Golden Bear. Inspired by her own story, her new film offers a sensitive meditation on heritage, forgetting and inner new beginnings.
