Domleschg Summer Concerts: "Les Pyramides galantes"

"Les Pyramides galantes" is a pun on Rameau's opera "Les Indes galantes".
Markus Brönnimann has compiled the suite entitled "Les Pyramides galantes" from works by Jean-Philippe Rameau for the Ensemble Pyramide. The works by Jean-Philippe Rameau, Jacques Pillois, Claude Debussy and Gion Antoni Derungs reflect different eras and aesthetics, from the splendor of the Baroque to the impressionistic soundscapes and innovative structures of the present day. Rameau's music captures the exotic spirit of the Baroque and combines different cultural spheres. Pillois' Cinq Haikai brings us closer to the art of haiku poetry and transfers it to the language of music. Debussy's Petite Suite demonstrates his mastery in creating impressions through sound. A special focus in this program is dedicated to Gion Antoni Derungs from Graubünden, who developed his very own language between tradition and modernity in his chamber music. These works, which all address the connection between culture, sound and expression in different ways, offer a deep insight into the further development of the Western musical tradition. Their diversity shows how composers were constantly searching for new ways of expression to reflect the complex aspects of human life and music.
