Where you are not, there is happiness. A journey through 20 years of master vocal courses in Arosa.In a theatrical performance, the singers from the master course of Dutch vocal pedagogue Mariette Witteveen and her pianist Femke de Graaf will present a selection of arias and songs. Composers and poets such as Purcell, Schubert, Brahms, Bellini, Bach, Handel, Shakespeare, and Rilke will take turns in a narrative journey. At the center of the story is a mini highlight from the opera Dido and Aeneas by H. Purcell, which we already staged in Arosa in 2018.We engage with themes such as longing, foreignness, rootlessness, love lost and love fulfilled, loneliness, and experiences of nature in this journey.Where am I going? Where is my home? When is love fulfilling? What does loneliness mean to me? How do I experience others? How do I celebrate life? What do I feel?The art of singing is deeply rooted in philosophical and psychoanalytical questions, as it directly connects being human, the body, and expression, and in the 20 years, much has changed with the times, for example: how we perceive ourselves as musicians, artists, and singers, and how we want to develop. For these reasons, we try to shape our singing repertoire in an experimental way. We invite you to embark on this journey with us on August 14 and celebrate Mariette Witteveen's 20 years of vocal art in Arosa.
