Tarcisi Cadalbert (1943-2003), known as Tarcisi, was a Swiss artist who was primarily known as a painter and performance artist. Born in Sevgein in the Surselva, he remained deeply attached to his Grisons homeland throughout his life, although he spent most of his life in Zurich from 1963 onwards. There he initially studied law and social pedagogy and later worked as a secretary at the Tages-Anzeiger newspaper. During this time, he devoted himself more and more intensively to art as an autodidact. He became a freelance artist in 1979.

Tarcisi's well-known and later oil paintings are often characterized by a dense, mostly gloomy heaviness and choice of colours. In his early works on paper, such as the watercolors now on display at zezzaneera, he captured his homeland, the Surselva,
with its impressive mountains and nature. The medium of watercolor allowed him to capture the fleetingness of the moment and to experiment with light, water and colorful pigments. In the seclusion of the mountains, he found the tranquillity he needed to reproduce this very personal pictorial language.

In Tarcisi's oeuvre, the early watercolors are considered an independent group of works. In collaboration with the Tarcisi Foundation, these works are now being made accessible to the public for the first time. They are the impressive pictures of an honest, empathetic, rebellious and sensitive artist.
