Faust: Reloaded

**In the end, not everyone is dead**
The Alpine Theater Company from St. Moritz is bringing Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's famous tragedy "Faust I" to the stage in its own linguistically modernised version. Old Faust is dusty – dead? Long live the new one: disillusioned and on the verge of a nervous breakdown.

Heinrich Faust is a man who knows everything, but feels nothing. Until the diabolical seducer Mephisto lures him out of his head: into club life, into intoxication and contradiction. A high-wire act between the search for meaning and self-destruction. There Heinrich meets the young woman Margarete. This Gretchen is not naïve, she just pretends to be. She is inquisitive, alert and funny. And that totally confuses Heinrich. And then evil literally lurks around every corner. It's about an attempt at a love affair, but one that is constantly in danger of being ruined by Mephisto's destructive spirit.

The radically modernised text by actor Alexander Moitzi and the fast-paced production by Graubünden director Felicitas Heyerick ask what seduction this love is exposed to and what chances it still has in the end. Because the malicious power of destruction is omnipresent. Even if this quotation from Goethe's Faust is not used, Mephisto's attitude is clear:
"I am the spirit who always denies! And rightly so; because everything that comes into being is worth perishing. So it would be better if nothing were created. So everything that you call sin, destruction, in short, evil, is my real element."

Spoiler: In the end, not everyone is dead. With a good dose of self-irony, the play jumps directly into the present.

**Who is Who**
Alexander Albrecht is a Swiss actor with roots in Zurich and St. Moritz. His work has taken him to Berlin, New York and Mexico City, among other places, and has shaped an international approach to acting and theatre work. He can also be seen in productions such as the Netflix series "The Queen's Gambit", the Sky series "Little Birds" and the ZDF/UFA production "Ku'damm 63". In addition to his work in front of the camera, he is firmly rooted in the theatre. Together with Alexander Moitzi, Alexander Albrecht is co-founder and artistic director of the ATC in St. Moritz.

Born in Upper Austria, Alexander Moitzi completed his training at the Performing Arts Studios in Vienna and in New York. Numerous appearances as a singer and dancer as international musical and theater stages, including at the New York Metropolitan Opera, crown his career. He also appears in various Austrian and international film and TV productions. Together with Alexander Albrecht, Alexander Moitzi is co-founder and artistic director of the ATC in St. Moritz.

The Alpine Theater Company (ATC) gives well-known material its own, unmistakable colour with innovative productions. The new interpretation of the piece "Mozart and Salieri" kicked off in 2023 with "Re:Mozart". After the successful premiere in St. Moritz, "Re:Mozart" toured on to Zurich. In the 25/26 winter season, the next in-house production, "Faust:Reloaded", followed, which can now be seen on the stage of the Chur Theatre.
