As early as 1981, Patrick Süskind made it clear in his one-act play "The Double Bass" who holds an orchestra together, whom all musicians follow (not the conductor), who should actually be honored in the orchestra (also not the conductor). Josef Gilgenreiner, solo bass player of the Musikkollegium Winterthur and member of the Belgian ensemble "Le Concert Olympique", demonstrates to us with his program "Bass amazed" that the low register should not be underestimated.

Of course, the composer Giovanni Bottesini, the "Paganini of the double bass", should not be missing from such a programme. He originally played the violin and found his way to the double bass rather by chance, as there were no places available for violin in Milan at the time. So he changed tack without further ado, completed his studies with flying colors and from then on traveled half the world as a celebrated double bass virtuoso. In Manuel de Falla's folk songs, the double bass takes over the vocal line, which gives the works a melancholic character with impressive depth of sound, including a high degree of technical flexibility on the part of the soloist.

A little humorous, or at least with a wink, we just let everything come to us that calls to us from the depths.
