Eva Wey Trio - Alpine Folk Music - Flimsfestival 2026

Folk music from the Alpine region means heavenly peaks to terrifying valleys wrapped in music. Melodies, often built on the natural tone series, have been forgotten and brought back to life. Improvisations are part of the program and help to bring the spirit of these partly ancient dance pieces to new life. One of the foundations of the current repertoire is based on the collection "Old Schwyz Violin Dances", which was handed down by Anton Hotz (SZ) around 1830. A true Swiss musical treasure opens up: with a total of 101 dances, the collection is one of the oldest and most productive folk music collections in Switzerland at that time. Stylistically, the repertoire forms a kind of "hinge" between the Altfrentsch collection of Gonten/AI and early Viennese waltzes – archaic, cheeky, breezy and stompy. In addition, old and new dances from the Alpine region will be presented. Eva Wey's multifaceted violin playing, combined with guitar and double bass: that's "Alpine Folk Music"!
