flimsfestival: Gartenkonzert

A new place, a new garden, or rather the terrace in front of the Plaids dormitory, with the most beautiful view of Flims, green and well-maintained. There we can expect a varied afternoon with Isabelle Gichtbrock. The flutist, singer, speaker and garden expert is just the right person for this place and lets us participate in her musical and botanical passions. In addition to texts and exciting information, we hear flute music from the largest music collection ever published by a single composer for a solo wind instrument: the "Fluyten-Lusthof" by the Dutch recorder virtuoso, carillonist and composer Jakob van Eyck. He was blind from birth and became a carillon player at several churches in Utrecht. He had an excellent reputation as a bell expert. In 1649 his salary was increased on the condition that he would delight the walkers in the churchyard with the sound of his little flute. The improvisations and variations played on these occasions gave rise to his "Fluyten-Lusthof". Then the 24 duets by the French composer Philibert Delavigne, each of which bears the name of a flower. They were originally written for two musettes, but today they are mostly interpreted on recorders and fit wonderfully with our current concert venue.
