Prof. Dr. med. Thierry Carrel is one of Europe's best-known heart surgeons. After passing the state examination in 1984, he completed further training as a general surgeon FMH in Basel and Bern and then as a cardiac and vascular surgeon FMH at the University of Zurich. Until the end of 2020, he headed the Clinic for Cardiovascular Surgery at the Inselspital. Between 2021 and 2022, he was Deputy Clinic Director of the Clinic for Cardiac Surgery at the University Hospital Zurich and then he was a cardiac surgeon at the University Hospital Basel.

With over 850 scientific publications, as co-editor of several international journals and the Cardiac Surgery Programme at the Hirslanden Clinic in Bern and Aarau, he has earned an excellent reputation in the professional world.

With his Corelina Foundation, he is also on a humanitarian mission and enables children with heart disease from abroad - and in certain cases also from Switzerland - to receive optimal medical treatment and care.
