Event Engadin St. Moritz
Kammermusik Konzert - Frielinghaus Ensemble
Description
Great sonic opulence and a wealth of harmonic diversity can be experienced in the works of this chamber music concert. This is particularly evident in Arnold Schoenberg's Sextet Verklärte Nacht (Transfigured Night), based on a poem of the same name by Richard Dehmel. In this work, Schoenberg, through a process of "developing variation," ventures to the limits of tonality and musically narrates the story of confession, forgiveness, and transfiguration. Johannes Brahms, in turn, combines classical form with romantic expressiveness in his String Sextet, alternating between lyrical moments and dramatic climaxes. Both musical languages are interwoven and retrospectively integrated in Richard Strauss's Capriccio, so that the concert program appears like a blossoming bouquet of compositional and artistic possibilities.
