Ocean Darkening

Ocean Darkening is a sound installation by Stefan Kägi. In it, he approaches the potency, diversity and adaptability of microorganisms, especially those that live together with Pacific corals.

The sound installation is based on interviews with Dr. Martin Sperfeld, Dr. James O'Brien and Prof. Jan Roelof van der Meer, conducted by director Mathias Hannus-El Khoury; furthermore, on genomic data from coral reef microorganisms from the Pacific, and finally on acoustic recordings by Ph.D. Xavier Raick of coral reefs near French Polynesia.

The project was made possible by the cultural promotion of the canton of Graubünden, the NCCR Microbiomes and the collaboration with the aforementioned researchers and will have its world premiere at the Galaria Fravi in Domat/Ems.
