Open Atelier im Lilly Keller Haus

The studio in the Lilly Keller House and the surrounding garden inspire and nourish Catherine Burkhard's new artistic processes and working methods. The surroundings, memories and observations are captured by her on paper and serve as a collection and source material for further artistic work. At the center of the working process is the examination of the picture, the painting, the space and the connecting element of color. The colour develops an expansive feeling at the interface between the inside and the outside. In Catherine's mind's eye, images of memory are formed, which find their expression in the interweaving between representation and abstraction. Parallel to the painting, a textile work is created, a curtain in the tradition of an architectural design element. On the basis of her experiences, she is looking for new approaches and a path to further artistic development during her residency in Thusis.
Catherine Burkhard (*1967) works in Zurich as an artist, colour designer and lecturer. In her own studio, painting is in the foreground. In her studio for colour design, burkhard & fata, she develops colour concepts for architecture and public space together with Nora Fata and with entrepreneurial prudence. The interweaving and interlocking way of working creates atmospheric interventions that make it possible to experience colour as an essential component of our built environment. As a lecturer at the House of Colour in Zurich and the F+F School Zurich for Art and Design, also in Zurich, she imparts her knowledge in the field of colour.
