OPEN-AIR CINEMA:
WOMEN AT WAR (Iceland 2018)
Director: Benedikt Erlingsson

Halla is fifty and an independent woman. But behind the facade of a leisurely routine, she leads a double life as a passionate environmental activist. Known by the alias “The Woman of the Mountain,” she secretly wages a one-woman war against the local aluminum industry. Through acts ranging from vandalism to industrial sabotage, she manages to halt negotiations between the Icelandic government and an international investor. But then she learns that her application to adopt a child has finally been approved. She plans her last and most daring operation as the savior of the Highlands. The Icelandic director has created a comedy that is as humorous as it is politically sharp-tongued. The depiction of Iceland’s barren expanses is mesmerizing, and lead actress Halldóra Geirharðsdóttir is a force to be reckoned with.
