Event Arosa Lenzerheide
Reading circle
Description
On September 9, Gertrud Schwaninger will present "Fluchtnovelle" in the reading circle of Thomas Strässle. All Arosians and guests are warmly invited to the event. Reading the novel is not a prerequisite for participation! Erfurt, 1965: In the "House of the Red Army," a student from East Germany meets a student from Switzerland. Both are very young—she is 21, he is 23. They fall in love and want a shared life, but the Iron Curtain separates them. The idea that he could go to the East with her is out of the question for both, and so they desperately search for a way for her to get to the West. When they realize that it cannot be done legally, they devise a brilliant plan to attack the system from the side that gives it the least attention: East Germany does everything to prevent people from leaving, so they try to enter from the opposite direction. The route leads through Prague; they prepare everything meticulously, but when the crucial moment arrives, nothing goes as planned. Thomas Strässle tells of the power of love against the overpowering systems. He tells a true story that regularly takes your breath away. The story of two young people who risk everything, the story of his parents.
