Dr. Bruno Meier, Luven/Baden, will give a lecture on the topic
"The Marignano of the Three Leagues: Two Sides of the Same Coin – The Mercenary Treaty with France in 1549 and its Consequences for the Surselva." On 7 July 1549, a huge festival took place in Ilanz, paid for with French money. The Three Leagues celebrated the conclusion of the new mercenary alliance with the King of France, which replaced the agreement of 1521. The French envoy Castion, owner of Haldenstein, paid for food and drink for 2000 mercenaries who had already been recruited. Five years later, the joy turned into great grief and anger.
