At the request of an indigenous Adivasi community, the Sri Lankan artist Deneth Piumakshi Veda Arachchige is campaigning for the return of colonial cultural assets and human remains from Basel museums. As early as the 1970s, a museum director from Sri Lanka demanded their return, but Switzerland refused. Between archives, authorities and closed museum doors, a discourse on ownership, memory and historical responsibility unfolds – while the Wanniyala Aththo community waits for the return of the human remains of their ancestors.
