Most popular winter hike on the sunny side of the valley.
Details
Description
After Sedrun train station, we reach Bugnei via various lightly trafficked residential streets. On a sunny, sheltered slope and along the Matterhorn Gotthard Railway line, the path leads to the picturesque village of Mompé Tujetsch. Along the way, there are repeated opportunities to rest on a bench and enjoy the sun. From Mompé Tujetsch, we have a beautiful view towards Disentis with its impressive monastery. After a gentle descent, we reach Segnas. It is worth making a detour into the village because the Walser village with its typical, sun-darkened wooden houses has remained very original. Via the districts Buretsch and Cuoz, we continue down the valley to the train station in Disentis.
The train takes us back to Sedrun.
Variations: The path can be shortened at will; there are four train stops between Sedrun and Disentis to return to Sedrun. Or you can make the hike a bit more sporty in the opposite direction.
Condition: In good weather and at high temperatures, it can quickly get muddy in the afternoon. This leads to icy spots the next morning. The residential and side streets are mostly snow-free.
Hidden Gem
There is a public toilet in Mompé Tujetsch.
Safety Note
In spring, there are icy spots in the morning and wet spots in the afternoon due to meltwater. Anyone boarding the train at an unstaffed stop must purchase a ticket with the SBB app. No ticket machines are available.
Equipment
Hiking poles are recommended.
Directions
From Sedrun train station, we hike towards Bogn Sedrun (indoor pool) and then along residential streets to Bugnei. Here begins the hiking trail along the railway line to Segnas. In Segnas, we hike just below Ustria Cresta to the left and then right to the village district Buretsch. Here we turn left to Cuoz, where we have to walk a short distance along the main road to the sports center. At the stream, there is the junction of the footpath leading down to the station.
