Description

Our tip for the next stage of the Bernina route:

  • Diavolezza: At Diavolezza, you are in the middle of the ballroom of the Alps.

This stage begins leisurely strolling along the Lago Bianco. Behind the dam, the path merges into a wide alpine trail past Lej Nair and Lej Pitschen. At the height of Lej Pitschen, the comfort ends. The path branches to the left and climbs over alpine meadows up to Lej d'Arlas and then in steeper terrain to Lej da Diavolezza. At the turquoise blue lake, it would be a good time to rest because after that it goes through rocky terrain up to Diavolezza and to the destination of the day’s stage, the Berghaus Diavolezza. If you haven't gained enough altitude yet, you can continue hiking, past the mountain lodge, over a ridge, and through scree up to Munt Pers (about 1 hour walking time). Return to the mountain lodge the same way. If you don't want to hike up to Munt Pers, you can also enjoy a wellness break in the Jacuzzi on the panoramic terrace.

Hidden Gem

End the day on the panoramic terrace of the Berghaus Diavolezza and enjoy the sunset with this unique view of glaciers and mountains.

Safety Note

After the Lej da Diavolezza, there can still be snowfields in some places well into July and partially icy in October, which makes the path more challenging. An alternative would be to walk along the ski slope by the Lej da Diavolezza up to the Diavolezza.
