Description
The Alpen Challenge Lenzerheide is the classic road cycling race of Graubünden and is considered "Europe's most beautiful cycling marathon." There are two routes for up to 1500 cyclists starting from Lenzerheide, either over Albula and Julier or over Albula, Maloja, and Splügen. Thus, the Alpen Challenge on the long distance is also one of the toughest cycling marathons in the Alps.
The event takes place every August. Current information is available on the internet at www.alpenchallengelenzerheide.ch and at www.facebook.com/alpenchallengelenzerheide
Hidden Gem
It is worth starting early – then the temperatures are still pleasant and you have enough time. For the long route, an alternative is also a trip with the Rhaetian Railway to St. Moritz. This way, you have one less pass to ride, as Splügen, with over 30 kilometers of ascent, is an extremely tough challenge...
Safety Note
For the long route please bring lights, as there are several tunnels in the Viamala Gorge and between Thusis and Tiefencastel. Alternatively, you can also travel by the RhB from Thusis to Tiefencastel.
