Description

Not too long but somewhat demanding circular route directly from the village centre of St. Antönien. The ascent is significantly steeper than the descent, but at the end of the route you reach the beautiful and sunny refreshment options Hochsitz or Elchhütte (open during ski lift operation). Beautiful views of the village and the entire valley basin from various points.

Trail marking no. 21 (red: moderately demanding)

Hidden Gem

Refreshment possibilities at Hochsitz and Elchhütte (open during ski lift operation), towards the end of the route.

Safety Note

The marked snowshoe trails of Pany and St. Antönien lead into unsecured, partly alpine winter terrain. Each tour participant is responsible for equipping themselves fully and informing themselves about the snow and avalanche conditions before the tour. Also observe the safety instructions in the pocket map for the snowshoe trails and at the central information boards in Pany and St. Antönien.

The time indication is a guideline for reasonably experienced tour participants under good conditions. Times for snowshoe tours can vary greatly depending on conditions, equipment and fitness. Plan enough time and start early for your planned tour!

This tour description and the markings on the ground do not represent a tour recommendation. Every decision to proceed lies solely with the individual tour participant. It is strongly advised against proceeding in poor visibility conditions (fog, snowfall, etc.) or with increased avalanche danger. Attention to spring conditions: from about March and generally on warm and/or very sunny days, tours should be finished early.

Equipment

Well-functioning snowshoes, poles with winter baskets, good footwear, winter-suitable clothing. The wind can significantly lower the perceived temperature in winter: don't forget winter gloves, hat, thermos flask, etc.!

Carrying a complete winter touring equipment including avalanche beacon is recommended on the marked snowshoe trails of Pany and St. Antönien.

Directions

Follow the pink marking from the bus stop, at the first fork keep right: Now it goes quite steeply uphill to the viewing terrace with the large transmission mast, from where you have a lovely view over the entire St. Antönien dispersed settlement: ideal for a first breather! Then it goes steeply uphill and through a wooded area on a narrow (summer) path until you reach the snow-covered alpine road at 1790m. Culmination point and nice rest spot with a view of the rear valley basin and the Rätikon mountains. Now it goes leisurely downhill on the alpine road, partly through the forest, until you leave it completely and turn left to the sunny excursion tavern 'Hochsitz'. Above the slope, the marked trail leads towards the village and back to the starting point at the post bus stop.
