Description

The descent from the Chörbschhorn to the Stafelalp will be familiar to some from summer biking. The descent over the long ridge on skis is just as fun as in summer on a bike!

The ski tour starts in Davos Frauenkirch. First, go past the Frauenkirch church northwest over Matten and then along the alpine path to the Stafelalp. Continue over the broad ridge following the summer path northwest to point 2,363. Then either go over the distinctive ridge to the Chörbschhorn hut or bypass it to the east. From the hut, follow the south ridge to the summit.

The descent follows the ascent route. First over the south ridge past the Chörbschhorn hut, then over the long ridge to the Stafelalp. From the Stafelalp, return through the forest to Frauenkirch.

There are plenty of free parking spaces in Frauenkirch near the gravel plant (Sertigerstrasse 1), right next to the riding stable in Sand.

Hidden Gem

On the descent, be sure to stop at the Stafelalp and visit the Berghaus Stafelalp.

Safety Note

Anyone going off-piste acts entirely at their own risk and is outside the liability of the cable cars. The yellow-marked freeride pistes are secured but not groomed or controlled. They may only be used when open. We recommend checking the open pistes, the SLF avalanche bulletin, and the weather forecast. All liability is excluded.

This freeride route is to be understood as a general directional guide. Depending on conditions, descent routes must be assessed and adjusted independently. No guarantee is given for the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of the information.

Freeride skiing in open terrain is at your own risk. Every freerider and tour participant is strongly advised to prepare thoroughly, plan routes, and obtain current information on snow and avalanche conditions. Avalanche report and snow info: www.slf.ch

All liability for accidents resulting from the use of the published information and route details is rejected.

In case of doubt, accompaniment by experienced mountain guides is strongly recommended: www.bergfuehrer-davosklosters.ch

Equipment

We recommend the avalanche training center before the descent.

At Jakobshorn near the Fuxägufer mountain station in Davos, the correct use of the avalanche transceiver (LVS) can be practiced under realistic conditions. The training area consists of a 100 x 100 m zone in moderately steep terrain, representing a realistic avalanche cone. Use of the training area is free of charge. You must bring your own LVS and avalanche probe.
