Description
The varied hike takes us from Disentis station westward to the chapel Sontga Gada. This secluded chapel dates from the 11th century, was rebuilt around 1420 and commemorates the Saracen invasion in the year 940. The frescoes from the 15th century are very worthwhile seeing.
On a wide hiking trail we walk down to the Rhine at Cuflons. It is a nice place to sit by the water for a few minutes and listen. Over a bridge whose foundations date back to Roman times, we cross the Rhine. The path through the gorge and along the river is very exciting. Between the trees we repeatedly get a view of the stream bed with the eroded potholes.
After the Lukmanier Pass road we reach our destination, Fontanivas. The place offers everything you need for a sunny summer day: bathing lake, water playground, restaurant and plenty of space to relax.
After the short ascent to Salaplauna we hike back along a path lined with dry stone walls to Disentis station.
Hidden Gem
In Cuflons there is a Swiss family barbecue site directly on the Rhine.
Directions
From Disentis station to the village church. Here we turn left, and then immediately left again at the stream. Now we are on a road leading to Sontga Gada. Down to the Rhine follows a wide hiking trail. At the bridge we keep left until we reach the road. We pass underneath it and on the other side is already Fontanivas. In an eastern direction we now hike through the forest to the signpost, where we keep left. After the dry stone wall path we reach Raveras. Now it goes up a bit to the station, which we can already see.
