Details
Description
The packhorse village Andeer is the largest village in Val Schons, where the Romans already settled on their way over the Alps. Andeer is also a spa resort and has a mineral bath rich in calcium, magnesium, and sulfate.
Zillis is known for its Romanesque hall church from the 12th century and its unique church ceiling, which consists of 153 painted square panels, mostly made of fir wood, representing a very rare work of art of this kind.
The route leads on the left side of the Hinterrhein on a wide forest path to Clugin. From there it goes steeply uphill on mountain paths to the Cagliatscha ruin with a magnificent view of Val Schons. A fireplace invites you to stop and rest.
Via Donat, located on the Schamserberg, it goes down mountain and forest paths to Zillis. A visit to St. Martin's church is worthwhile.
On the right side of the Hinterrhein, the route leads back over Pignia to Andeer.
Hidden Gem
Visit the church in Clugin with its wall paintings inside the church from the first half of the 14th century by the Waltensburg master of unknown origin.
