Show all 4 images
The crown of the Surselva is an impressive and partly challenging circular hike from hut to hut in Graubünden. It connects the seven mountain huts in the Surselva – the Vorderrheintal between Flims and the Rhine source at the Oberalp Pass, including the valleys of Vals, Lumnezia, and Medel.
Details
Description
The descent leads through Val Cavardiras to Alp Cavrein Sura. Now you leave the marked trail to Alp Russein da Trun and continue to the high plateau of Val Gliems. Cairns and orange dots indicate the way. Note: the trail is not marked! After the ascent to Fuorcla da Punteglias at 2800m, the descent follows scree slopes and the glacier forefield.
Camona da Punteglias «The Sociable»
At 2311m above sea level, Camona da Punteglias watches over Trun from a rocky outcrop. A striking panorama of impressive mountain peaks of the Glarus Alps opens to the north. To the south, the view opens to the Vorderrheintal and the extensive mountain panorama.
The hut is a starting point for popular alpine tours, such as to Piz Russein (Tödi), Piz Urlaun, Piz Frisal, Piz Posta Biala, or Bündner Tödi. It is also well suited as a 1- or 2-day hike and for long-distance hikes over Val Gliems. The extensive glacier forefield behind the hut offers an impressive variety of rocks and plants, which is very exciting to explore for both young and old. The Punteglias hut offers space for 35 guests and invites you to linger with its cozy charm, sociable atmosphere, and homemade delicacies from the wood-fired oven and stove.

Safety Note
The section from Alp Russein da Trun to Camana da Punteglias is not marked as a hiking trail. As a guideline: Anyone needing more than 3 hours for the section from Cavardirashütte to Alp Russein da Trun should choose the descent through Val Russein and not climb further into Val Gliems.
Update 2025: The aforementioned section will be marked in summer 2025. However, prepare for unfinished sections. The newly published route here (spring 2025) is the planned route.
Note: Snowfields are possible on high-altitude sections until summer months.
In uncertain weather conditions, the route should not be started. Weather changes in the mountains are common. If a rain front or similar approaches during the hike, you should turn back in time.
