Description
The first station of the cultural route is the "Bündner Rütli" near Vazerol. This mountain village is not only located near the geographical center of Graubünden but was also formerly an important hub for the transport of goods and people to and from the south. It is said that the peasant councils met here in the 15th and 16th centuries to discuss alternatives to the peasant wars. One of the most important historical treasures is located in the parish church of St. Calixtus, the second stage of the "Voia Culturala." This refers to the masterfully carved late Gothic winged altar, considered the most important altar in Graubünden. The third stop on the cultural route is dedicated to the Belfort castle ruins. Today a tranquil site, it was a focal point of the political, legal, and economic organizations of the region from the 13th to 14th centuries, its walls filled with vibrant life. One of the most important connecting roads passed in front of the castle gate. Over 500 years ago, Belfort Castle was stormed and burned down prior to the Battle of Calven (1499). In recent years, the castle ruins have been renovated, secured, and made accessible. The fourth and final information point is located at the "Paunt dalla Dieschma." The trade route ran over this until the road network was renewed around 1830. The arch construction made of mortared rubble stone is partly original and the large stone pavement is still recognizable.
