Description
Starting in Bad Ragaz, the leisurely route leads past the airfield, the top station of the Pizol cable car, and past the Saarfall to Vilters. Following the Grossbach, the Rhine Valley is crossed before climbing the short ascent to Sargans Castle. The castle embodies two hundred years of county and more than three centuries of varied Vogt rule. The count's castle houses one of Europe's most important local history museums and bears witness to the Sargans homeland history. The castle also offers wonderful views of the surrounding villages and mountain landscape. After a short descent to the entrance of the Gonzen iron ore mine, where the Romans already extracted iron ore, the route crosses the Sarganser Au. Along the Rhine dam, it leads back to Giessenpark Bad Ragaz and the starting point at the Tamina Therme Bad Ragaz.
Hidden Gem
On hot summer days, a refreshing swim at the Saarfall is recommended.
Equipment
