Description
On the former access road, which is closed to motorized traffic, the ambitious tour masters the incline into the Tamina Valley. Past the hamlets of Balen and Gassaura, the imposing Tamina Bridge, an arched bridge with a span of 270 m to the opposite side of the valley to Pfäfers, is astonishing. Valens is home to the rehabilitation centre, which is one of the leading rehabilitation clinics in Switzerland and specialises in the treatment of functional disorders of the movement rate and the nervous system. The road leads steadily up and down to the catchment basin of the Mapragg reservoir, which we follow on the western shore. A varied single trail leads us on to Vättis, from where the ascent to the reservoir Gigerwald and the Walser settlement St. Martin starts, a mysterious hamlet at the back of the Calfeisental from the 14th century. The descent is via easy hiking trails, gravel and tarred roads back to the Tamina Therme Bad Ragaz.
Geheimtipp
The Mapragg and Gigerwald reservoirs form the Taminatal pumped storage plant and draw water from the White Fir, Calfeisen and Tamina Valleys.
Ausrüstung
