Description
On the former access road closed to motorized traffic, the ambitious route masters the climb into the Taminatal. Passing the hamlets of Balen and Gassaura, the impressive Tamina Bridge, an arch bridge with a 270 m span, amazes on the opposite valley side towards Pfäfers. In Valens stands the rehabilitation center, one of the leading rehabilitation clinics in Switzerland, specialized in the treatment of dysfunctions of the musculoskeletal system and the nervous system. The road leads with constant ups and downs to the reservoir basin of the Mapragg reservoir, along whose western shore we follow. A varied singletrail then takes us further to Vättis, from where the climb to the Gigerwald reservoir and the Walser settlement of St. Martin begins, a mysterious hamlet deep in the Calfeisental dating from the 14th century. The descent leads back to Tamina Therme Bad Ragaz via simple hiking trails, gravel and paved roads.
Hidden Gem
The Mapragg and Gigerwald reservoirs form the pumped-storage power plant Taminatal and draw water from Weisstannen, Calfeisen, and the Taminatal.
Equipment
Normal bike equipment. Functional clothing is an advantage as ascents and descents alternate.
