Description
On the former access road to Valens, which is closed to motorized traffic, the easy tour masters the first ascent to the imposing Tamina Bridge. Crossing this arched bridge with its 270-metre span provides a view into the depths of the Tamina gorge and gives a glimpse of the Alte Bad Pfäfers, the oldest baroque baths in Switzerland, deep below. In Pfäfers, a visit to the baroque monastery church is a tempting prospect, before the steep climb up to the St. Margrethenberg plateau from Ragol with a view of the opposite side of the valley. From this quiet and lonely scattered settlement, it is worth making a detour on foot to the 1478-metre-high Pizalun, which promises magnificent views over the villages and fields of the Rhine and Seez valleys. The rapid descent is via easy hiking trails, gravel and tarred roads back to the Tamina Therme Bad Ragaz.
Hidden Gem
The Furggels fortress is located in the "cellar" of St. Margrethenberg. It is one of the largest fortifications ever built in Switzerland.
