From Soglio via Savogno to Chiavenna - Sentiero Panoramico

Although there is not a great difference in altitude between Soglio and Savogno, the trail leads up and down quite steeply in places, including through the wild Val Luver (the border valley between Switzerland and Italy) and over the Zernone stream. The route is very varied and can be an interesting extension of the well-known panoramic trail from Casaccia to Soglio. However, don't be fooled by the short distances, the route is more strenuous than a quick glance at the map would suggest.

Possibility of accommodation or refreshment at the refuge

In Soglio, at the parking lot in the western part of the village, the hike begins on a comfortable, flat little road to the pastures of Dasciun. From here, you must carefully follow the narrow path cut into the steep slope. It leads to the stream in Val Luver, which marks the Swiss-Italian border. On the Italian side, the path crosses some rocky sections, then leads over a metal staircase and finally continues through the forest to the Monti di Somasaccia. In this first section, you can often enjoy impressive views of the deep, wild valley.

At first, the route continues gently westwards through the clearings and the Monti di Villa. After the huts at Galleggione, the trail leads down to the bridge over the Zernone torrent. Immediately after the bridge, turn right, follow the course of the stream and then begin a steep ascent with hairpin bends, gaining a few hundred meters of altitude and reaching the huts and pastures of Calestro (1182 m). After a short descent, you come to a fork with signposts, which you follow along the path towards the Sentiero Panoramico to Savogno. Before Savogno, the trail follows the road to Savogno for a short distance before changing back to the footpath at the parking lot.

From Savogno, you can either descend comfortably along the beautiful mule track to Piuro or take the somewhat more spectacular (and steeper) option via the Acquafraggia waterfalls and then continue via Prosto to Chiavenna.
