Description
The Diesrut Pass and the Greina Pass were already crossings used in the Bronze Age and well-known mule tracks, especially in the Middle Ages. Let yourself be surprised by the diverse plant world! On the way, marmots and, with a bit of luck, chamois and ibex can be observed.
Stage 1: From Vrin to Capanna Scaletta
At the beginning it goes about 3 km along the road towards the hamlets of Cons, Ligiaziun and Sogn Giusep. From Sogn Giusep a hiking trail leads up to Camplun and Puzzatsch. This section can be shortened from the end of June to the beginning of October by bus Alpin. Reservation absolutely necessary: Timetable and info.
Now the actual ascent to the Greina begins. After a short stretch on the dirt road, the path winds its way past the alpine stables of Tegia Sut up to the Diesrut pass. Steeper sections alternate with long climbs. Shortly after the pass, the view opens up to the wide plain of the Greina with the meandering Rein da Sumvitg. After about 5 minutes, the path branches off to the left towards Passo della Greina. The path descends gently into the plain crossed by river arms. We continue through the Greina plain with its numerous swamps, extensive sheep pastures and the imposing mountain scenery. Depending on the weather, you will experience the most impressive light effects of sun, fog and clouds. In the area of the Passo della Greina, the yellowish-white Rauhwacke towers delight, and suddenly you can feel the geological contrasts in the colours: in the north there are the crystalline rocks of the Gotthard massif; adjacent are the bright dolomites and roughwackes from the Triassic period and to the south the black shales of the Coroi series (Jura). From the pass it is only a few minutes to Capanna Scaletta.
