Description

We hike into the Etzli valley, where we reach the Etzliboden over two terrain steps. After a short ascent, we arrive at the Etzlihütte. From the terrace, our view sweeps into the Chrüzli valley up to the Chrüzlipass, which has been used for centuries as a pilgrim and mule track. At the Chrüzlipass, we stand for a moment directly above the tunnel pipe! Upon reaching the Val Strem, we are impressed by the untouched valley with its lively stream, the lush meadows with cotton grass, and the view of the Oberalpstock. At the Bauns waterfalls, we look down to Sedrun. However, we cannot continue on the planned route here, since in March 2016 a rockfall blocked the valley. So we tackle the steep ascent to Alp Caschlé. Once at the top, we count the mountain peaks from Piz Badus, Piz Gannaretsch to Piz Medel and other three-thousanders in between. On the following valley hike to Sedrun, the sun is always in our faces.

From the Etzlihütte, it is also possible to hike via the Mittelplatten to Sedrun, which is shorter and less strenuous.

Directions

From Bristen, we follow the marked hiking trail (green sticker "Gotthard Tunnel Trail") to the Etzlihütte, which is a few minutes' walk above the valley floor. The path then leads to the Chrüzlipass, then down to Bauns. Here there is a counter-ascent of about 300 meters in altitude. We descend to Sedrun via the Alp Caschle.
