Güner Lückli in the Safiental
Show all 8 images
In the past, the Güner Lückli was an important mule pass from the Vorderrhein to Chiavenna. Today this route is only done in winter from the Safien side, and you can enjoy an impressive mountain landscape.

Description
1200 meters of elevation gain is quite a lot for a snowshoe tour. Often the tour is done with snowshoes starting from the hamlet of Gün. This route, about 250 meters shorter in elevation, is then feasible for the well-trained. The tour is then no longer possible by public transport. The road to Gün can be challenging in winter.
We now start the tour from the valley road and have to break trail steeply at the beginning. At the height of the Gün farm, the view into the mountain world becomes more impressive with every step. At just under 2000 meters above sea level, the Güner huts await us. By now, a break at a warm hut wall is definitely due. The route then continues over the broad shoulder to a tiny hut. The snow on the ridge is often blown away by the wind, but this does not stop us from stomping up almost to the steep final slope. The summit slope, with about 33 degrees steepness, is often filled with wind slabs. However, if conditions are safe, it is definitely worth it because the reward comes in the form of an incredible panoramic view. The view down into the west side, which is not passable in winter, is also "not bad."
On the descent, we provide a small variant here, but it can be freely chosen. The wide slopes offer many possibilities.
Hidden Gem
Those who take the whole route from the valley road with snowshoes must start early. Especially in midwinter, the days are short.
Safety Note
Ski and snowshoe tours in unsecured terrain require good knowledge of avalanche risk assessment and tour planning. Furthermore, a complete safety equipment must always be carried – regardless of the current avalanche risk.
We recommend preparing and planning the tour with the app and website from WhiteRisk.
For carefree enjoyment, we recommend our mountain guides and snowshoe tour leaders in Surselva.
