Description

The hike starts in Piaz (accessible by car or on-call bus). On a gravel road it goes over meadows and through a fir and larch forest slightly uphill to San Romerio. After about 30 minutes you will reach San Romerio. The actual charcoal burner path begins above the meadow and gardens of San Romerio. First, follow the red-and-white marked hiking trail for 150 meters until a narrow path branches off to the left, which is signposted with a wooden arrow. Following the arrows, you reach the perfectly preserved coal kiln, where coal was once fired. Then you reach the highest point of the hike (1975 m.a.s.l.M.). The way back leads

past a picnic area. After leaving the forest, you will return along a well-preserved dry stone wall to the church of San Romerio. The way back to Piaz runs on the gravel road, which you already know from the ascent.
