Description

At 2,200 metres above sea level, this plateau has a desolate, mountainous landscape and extensive network of streams. It is this impressive, plain landscape that makes the Greina plateau a unique natural wonder. Thank goodness the plans to build a power station in the 20th century fell through! Today, the Greina plateau is an experience for visitors of all ages. Bus Alpin helps make the Greina that bit more accessible, allowing us to hike to one of the SAC huts in just 1-4 hours.

We begin our hike in Runcahez and walk through the forest and along the river into the valley. The path soon begins to climb and we take a break before the steep section to enjoy the beautiful landscape with its waterfalls and churn holes. Refreshed, we tackle the uphill turns until we reach the crest of La Greina. Sure-footedness is required, however there are some ropes to hold onto along the way. We soon catch sight of our destination, the Terri hut. From here we can look back down into the valley and see our entire route with Tödi in the background.

The following morning, we discuss which route to take. If we choose to walk around the Muot la Greina, we will cross to the lower, flatter section of the plateau with its meandering stream, gravel banks and wet meadows. From here, we can return to the Terri hut and our starting point. If we decide to continue in a southerly direction, we will cross wetlands until we reach the Motterascio hut. We will then descend to Lake Luzzone and Ghirone.

Geheimtipp

Variant /2nd day: We leave the Muot la Greina on the left side and hike directly into the Greina. We stay on the right side of the watercourse and cross the Greina Pass to the Scaletta hut. On the way we visit the "Arco di Greina" a well-known rock arch.  From the hut we still have the descent to Pian Geirett, from where we take the bus Alpin to Olivone. (Last trip: 3.46 pm) See timetable!
