Description

On the road towards Vals we "roll in" and after about ten kilometers follow the signpost into Val Lumnezia. At the end of the valley lies the picturesque village of Vrin. In 1998, it was awarded the Wakker Prize and in 2010 it received a "European Village Renewal Prize for holistic, sustainable, and motto-appropriate village development of outstanding quality."

In the village bakery, we fortify ourselves for the upcoming 600 meters of ascent. The climb on mostly gravel and concrete paths to the Alp Nova, located over 2000 meters above sea level, flies by thanks to the exciting singletrail and a pedestrian wooden bridge.

The rewards for the struggles of the ascent are the peace and the view of the surrounding mountain world. Another refreshment for the descent can be enjoyed on the sun terrace at the Mountain Restaurant Wali, at the Maiensäss Restaurant Waschchrüt, or in high summer at Alp Stavonas. The fast paved and gravel roads back to the starting point in Ilanz demand full concentration once again.

On the banks of the Rhine, we congratulate each other for this achievement!

Hidden Gem

There are various options for refreshment along the way:

Those traveling with an e-gravel bike will find numerous charging stations along the route.

At Silgin, between Surcasti and Vrin, there is an impressive suspension bridge. If desired, follow the hiking trail signpost and bike route 222 in Silgin and ride up the steep but easy singletrail and across the suspension bridge.

Safety Note

The route should not be started in uncertain weather conditions. Weather changes in the mountains are frequent. If a rain front or similar approaches during the hike, you should turn back in time.
