Details

Description

We start at Maloja Posta and walk past the cross-country skiing center and the Hotel Maloja Palace to the lake. The frozen lake conveys a feeling of vastness, which is usually more familiar from coastal regions than from high mountain areas. We walk straight across the lake to Sils Maria. The path is usually officially open from mid-January. For the return trip, there is a post bus or the Engadin bus from Sils Maria about every 30 minutes. Those who still have energy can either return across the lake or take the hiking trail on the southeastern shore of the lake, which leads via Isola back to Maloja.

Hidden Gem

Those who wish can stop halfway in Isola at the Hotel Restaurant Lagrev.

Safety Note

Please definitely observe closures!

Equipment

Occasionally a cold wind blows across the huge ice surface. Therefore, be sure not to forget a protective jacket, scarf, hat, and gloves! On sunny days, bring sun protection and sunscreen.
