Mutterkuh frei - Tenna nach Safien-Platz

The starting point is the picturesque mountain village of Tenna at 1650 m above sea level, which is often referred to as the sun terrace of the Safien Valley. We leave the village and first enjoy the wide view down into the valley and over to the mighty Piz Beverin, which majestically towers over the entire hike. The path runs gently downhill towards the valley floor. We pass the Egschisee, an idyllic reservoir that looks like a silent mirror in the middle of the mountain landscape. Where the path approaches the wild course of the Rabiusa, natural alluvial forests line the path and give the landscape an original, almost fairytale character.

We hike along the river into the valley. Again and again, the view opens up and reveals the view of the higher, typical Walser hamlets that characterize the Safiental. In a constant up and down, over lush pastures and through shady forests, we reach the stage destination after a varied hike.

A special advantage of this hike: the route is considered "suckler cow free", which means that you do not have to cross pastures with herds of suckler cows - a reassuring thought for hikers with children or for those who prefer to avoid encountering cattle.

The destination Safien-Platz at 1316 m above sea level welcomes us with rural charm. The small village bakery invites you to fresh mountain bread and sweet treats - an enjoyable refreshment after the hike. A walk through the original Walser village rounds off the day.

Info-Point: Refreshment stops are available at the Berghotel Alpenblick in Tenna and at the Gasthaus Rathaus in Safien-Platz. A visit to the Tenna church with its beautifully restored frescoes from the late Middle Ages should not be missed.
