Description

This varied hike leads from Andeer through the impressive Roffla Gorge and the mystical Ferrera Valley to Innerferrera. Along the way, spectacular nature, impressive rock formations, quiet forest paths and exciting testimonies of history await you. The route runs partly on historic paths of the former mule track and combines impressive landscapes with cultural sights.

The hike begins in the village of Andeer and first passes through the grounds of the Conrad granite works, where the distinctive Rofna porphyry – better known as Andeer granite – is processed. Soon you will be immersed in quiet forest passages, past fascinating glacial cuts and the mysterious shell stones of Arsiert, whose origin is still a mystery today.

After a beautiful view over the Schamser Valley, you descend to the impressive Roffla Gorge with its thundering waterfall. If you want, you can visit the waterfall via the historic tunnel and learn more about its tourist development.

The route then leads briefly along the A13 to the historic Schmelza, where ores were once processed. A little later you reach the well-known bouldering area Magic Wood with its moss-covered boulders in the middle of a fairytale forest.

Via the forest clearing Pro sur Ragn as well as two footbridges and a narrow bridge you reach Ausserferrera. The Gasthaus Edelweiss invites you to a cosy stop here with regional specialities and Greek cuisine.

The last section runs through sparse mountain pine forest, past a power plant and impressive glacier mills. After the highest point of the hike at around 1,500 metres, the path leads leisurely down to Innerferrera, where the tour ends in quiet alpine surroundings.

A particular advantage of this hike: the route is considered "suckler cow free". There is no need to cross pastures with herds of suckler cows – ideal for families with children as well as for those who want to avoid encounters with suckler cows.
