Description

We start at the station in Bonaduz and take a rarely used road along the steep shore of the Hinterrhein towards Rhäzüns, passing the church "Sogn Gieri." This medieval hall church from the 10th century is unique in the northern Alpine region due to its complete frescoes and represents a Swiss cultural asset of national significance. We continue leisurely along the Hinterrhein to Thusis.

In Thusis, we cross the Hinterrhein and mostly drive on side roads through the hillside villages of the Domleschg. From Fürstenau, we go up to Almens, past the Canovasee above Paspels, to the highest point of our route, the organic farm Dusch. We enjoy the view of the opposite Heinzenberg before descending over Tomils to Rothenbrunnen. Via the Polenweg below Feldis, we follow forest paths to Reichenau, where the Hinterrhein and Vorderrhein converge. Finally, we return to Bonaduz on field paths.

The castles and palaces of the Domleschg are summarized in a handy MiniGuide folding brochure. Available at Viamala Tourismus in Thusis.
