 Details
Description
The hiking path mostly runs along scenic heights beneath the Alvier group, high above the Rhine valley. It offers a good view over the valley floor to the mountains opposite. Then you find yourself among apple orchards, traversing the main wine-growing area of the canton of St. Gallen with specialties such as Riesling and Sylvaner. The hike through the protected raised bogs of the Alvier region can be combined with a visit to one of the alpine dairies along the path. Those interested in history also have the chance to pause at one of the many fascinating castles and palaces along the route or visit the Roman path at Wildhaus. The Rheintal Ridgeway consists of 6 daily stages. Naturally, one can also complete the approximately 105 km long hike as a sportive challenge. But there is so much to discover along the way that it would be a pity to rush through the area.
Hidden Gem
The Rheintal Ridgeway is especially popular when föhn days in autumn sharpen the view.
