Details
Description
The route follows cycle route no. 6 from Thusis to the Viamala Gorge, an impressive natural monument, where the Hinterrhein carves its way through massive rock formations. At the visitor center, you can walk down the gorge on foot to admire the traces left by the water in the steep rock walls and feel the power of the water.
Our route continues to Zillis, where the 12th-century St. Martin's Church stands with its unique ceiling painting. From Zillis, it leads to the lower Schamserberg to Donat and further via Clugin to Andeer. For relaxation, visit the Andeer mineral spa.
Then it goes via the quaint mountain village of Pignia back to Zillis and on the cantonal road down through the Viamala Gorge again to Thusis.
Alternatively, the section between Thusis and Rongellen can also be traveled on the Viamalaweg, which is closed to traffic, passing through the Verlorna Loch.
Highlights along the route:
Hidden Gem
Stop at the Alte Post inn in Zillis and refresh yourself with homemade Capuns, a traditional Grison specialty.
Safety Note
The route runs from Thusis to Zillis on the cantonal road. Please note local and commercial traffic.
