Description

A hike through floodplain forests and nature reserves along the Vorderrhein. The starting point is Ilanz. Via Castrisch and Valendas/Sagogn station you reach the charming Grison villages of Sagogn and Schluein.

Safety Note

In uncertain weather conditions, the route should not be started. Weather changes in the mountains are common. If a rain front or similar approaches during the hike, you should turn back in time.

Equipment

Good hiking shoes with a good grip or trekking shoes, weather-appropriate clothing (rain jacket/sun protection), drink, possibly food, possibly hiking poles.

Directions

The starting point is in Ilanz. From there, the route goes via Castrisch and the Valendas-Sagogn station to Sagogn and then back to Ilanz.

Public Transport

From Chur, Ilanz station is easily accessible with an idyllic ride through the Rhine Gorge. The hike can be shortened at will with the Rhaetian Railway. Exact connections can be found on the SBB website: www.sbb.ch/

Travel Information

Ilanz is accessible via route 19 from both Chur and Disentis/Mustér.

Parking

There is a large paid parking lot directly at the station in Ilanz. Another smaller parking lot is available at the station in Castrisch (also paid).
