Description

The circular hike is scenically varied and offers impressive views despite the low altitude. The limestone rock face drops almost 300 meters vertically towards the Rhine. After the first flat section along the Rhine (2 km), the path becomes steeper and leads through the Mozentobel ravine. Soon the view opens up towards Gonzen and Gauschla, which you can see particularly well from this tour. On the Heidenkopf you already have an impressive view and it is an ideal place for a break next to the Ellhorn summit.

This is followed by a short descent before the final ascent to the Ellhorn summit at 758 m above sea level. M.

The last few meters to the summit require some surefootedness due to the rooted path. The descent is in the direction of Elltal, where you cross the border from Switzerland to Liechtstein and then hike back into Switzerland. After a short ascent in the opposite direction, you reach the crossing point, which takes you back down via the Mozentobel to the banks of the Rhine and the starting point.

Hidden Gem

Visit the Kuppelwieser farm store in Fläsch, where you can enjoy organic fruit and vegetables, regional products as well as coffee and cake in the lovely farm café.

Safety Note

Watch out for the risk of falling rocks in the Mozentobel. Cross the area quickly and watch the slope above. In spring, this section of the trail can still be a little wet. Good footwear recommended.

Equipment

Day hiking backpack (approx. 20 liters) with rain cover, sturdy and comfortable shoes, weather-appropriate and hard-wearing clothing in multiple layers, telescopic poles if necessary, sun and rain protection, provisions and drinking water, first aid kit, pocket knife, cell phone, headlamp if necessary, maps

Directions

The tour starts in Fläsch at the Neuländer parking lot (zone 1, Bahnhöfli in the Parkingpay app). For the first section, you walk along the road before turning right just before the Fläsch bridge. This is followed by a leisurely flat section of around 2.5 kilometers before the ascent through the forest begins. After a short time, you reach the Mozentobel, from where the trail leads you along the ridge to the Heidenkopf. From there, you descend 50 meters in a section of forest before the narrow, rooted path winds its way up to the Ellhorn. The descent is initially on a narrow path before you reach a wide and easy path again in the Elltal area. This leads you first on gravel and then on a meadow path back to the crossing point of the ascent. From here, follow the same path back to the starting point via Mozentobel and the banks of the Rhine back to Fläsch.
