Description
The road cycling route with 1,000 meters of elevation and 50 km starts in Flims and circles the Rhine Gorge, the Swiss Grand Canyon, a unique experience for every road cyclist. The route leads from Flims down the main road first to Trin Muiln, then turns to Trin Dorf, from there down again to Tamins. In Tamins, the Rhine is crossed for the first time, then a small climb leads to Bonaduz. On the little-trafficked roads towards Versam, the route winds along the gorge through the slope. From the Zault viewing platform, you have the perfect view into the gorge. A gentle 3.5 km climb with an average gradient of 3% warms up the legs before the ascent to Versam. The hairpin bends on the climb to Versam remind of a mountain pass road and are on average over 6% steep; before heading up there, a photo on the Versamer Tobel bridge is worthwhile. Once the climb is successfully done, the wonderful descent to Illanz begins. In Valendas, the inn Zum Brunnen invites you to a refreshment and spoils you with regional cuisine. In Ilanz, the route crosses the Rhine again; after a short stretch on the main road, the route turns off in Schluein towards Sagogn to return most of the ascent to Laax on quiet side roads. Once Laax Staderas is reached, the route leads almost flat back to Flims. Here you can end the day with a cold drink on the terrace of the Arena Bar
