Rundwanderung im Val Schons

The muleteer village of Andeer is the largest village in Val Schons, where the Romans settled on their way across the Alps. Andeer is also a spa town and has a mineral bath rich in calcium, magnesium and sulphate.

Zillis is known for its Romanesque hall church from the 12th century and its unique church ceiling, which consists of 153 painted square panels, mostly made of fir wood, and is a very rare work of art of this kind.

The hike leads on the left side of the Hinterrhein on a wide forest path to Clugin. From there it goes steeply uphill on mountain paths to the Cagliatscha ruins with a magnificent view of the Val Schons. A fireplace invites you to linger.

Via Donat, located on the Schamserberg, it goes down to Zillis on mountain and forest paths. A visit to the church of St. Martin is worthwhile.

On the right side of the Hinterrhein, the hike leads via Pignia back to Andeer.

Visit to the church in Clugin with its wall paintings inside the church from the first half of the 14th century by the Waltensburg master of unknown origin.
