Hike in Val Maisas south of Samnaun to the Red Seeli. This small pond used to turn red in the summer months due to algae, but now the pond is often almost dry in summer, so the phenomenon can no longer be observed.
Details
Description
The entrance to Val Maisas is via the steep little road to the shepherd's hut. With some patience and luck, the golden eagle can be observed in its nest on the opposite slope. After the shepherd's hut, the single trail begins; after about 500 meters there is a turnoff towards Schwarzwand. Through the alpine roses, it goes steadily towards Schwarzwand. After about two hours, one reaches the Red Seeli. It is a small lake whose water used to turn red in the summer months due to algae. In recent years, the lake has sometimes dried up in summer, so the phenomenon could not always be observed. The return route is via Lange Seite and Rossboden back to Samnaun Dorf.
