Description

From Andeer, the path leads in a gentle descent to Innerferrera, where the historic Averserstrasse begins. Right at the start, impressive views open up onto the wild gorge of the Ragn da Ferrera. Across a wood-concrete bridge, a short rock tunnel («Mut d’Avers») and a narrow path through the forest, you reach the bridge of Val digl Uors.

Now begins one of the most impressive sections of the stage: the Starlerastrecke and the Valle di Lei Stutz with artfully built natural stone constructions, impressive bridges like the Starlerabrücke, and geological peculiarities at the warm spring near Starlera. After the Valle di Lei bridge, the path climbs steeply, passes through the Bleikawald to Campsut, and continues on the same side of the valley to Finstera Stägg. Over a concreted bridge, the cantonal road, and meadow terrain, you reach the old mule track to Cröt.

Along the way, hikers encounter deeply cut gorges, historic Walser houses, fragrant forests, blooming alpine meadows, and quiet alpine landscapes – a varied route full of history, culture, and nature.

Hidden Gem

  • Ragn da Ferrera Gorge: Just after Andeer, the path crosses the wild Ragn da Ferrera Gorge. Here, the water has carved deep furrows into the rock, creating impressive formations.
  • Historic Averserstrasse: The stage follows the old Averserstrasse from the 19th century. Its dry stone walls and stone bridges testify to the former traffic connection to the high valley of Avers.
  • Gasthaus Walserstube: enjoy regional specialties, Latin cuisine, and selected wines.

Equipment

Appropriate weather-proof equipment is strongly recommended.

Directions

From Andeer, the route initially leads into a gentle descent to Innerferrera, where it meets the historic Averserstrasse. Even here, impressive views open onto the wild gorge of the Ragn da Ferrera. From the village square in Ferrera, the route follows the road until a turnoff leads left down to the Ragn da Ferrera. A wood-concrete bridge is crossed, then it continues left past a parking area and after about 250 m through the rock tunnel «Mut d’Avers». Then the path runs on the valley side on a narrow footpath through the forest over a small bridge.

At the PostAuto stop «Abzweigung Val digl Uors», beneath the cantonal road, the bridge of Val digl Uors is crossed. Afterward, the path runs parallel to the cantonal road to the tunnel portal, from where the access to the old Averserstrasse begins on the left. This historic section – the Starlerastrecke and the Valle di Lei Stutz – impresses with artful natural stone constructions from the 19th century, including the imposing natural stone bridge directly at the national border over the Reno di Lei. Particularly worth seeing are the Starlerabrücke, the retaining walls, and geological features such as sinter formations at the warm spring near Starlera.

After the Valle di Lei bridge, the route climbs steeply up to the cantonal road, continues over the metal stairs through the Bleikawald to Campsut. On the same valley side, it continues to Finstera Stägg, over a concreted bridge and the cantonal road, before the path leads over meadow terrain and on remnants of the old mule track to Cröt.

Along the way, hikers encounter masterfully built bridges, deeply cut gorges, historic Walser houses, and peaceful alpine landscapes. Fragrant forests, blooming alpine meadows, and fascinating views of the Averser gorge complete this varied tour through history, geology, and culture.
